Pete - Sorry to here about your Red Devil female. My intent is to leave the divider in there doe 3 weeks and then remove it. I am hopping thats all the it will take to get them back in good shape.

The reason I am asking about dithers is kinda for a plan "B", just in case.

Great discusion Guys, Thanks for all the input.

PS - I tried the 2nd Female Genotype because she was handy and I figured it was worth a shot? The original owner jump started there bond by adding a 2nd smaller Male in with them. I dident have a Male that would fit the bill so I tried the Female. It worked for a day or so but then the larger female went back to being the tank bully =-).

Thanks, Arksngel77

Do they show any interest in each other at the divider?

You should be fine. If you want to push them, do small water changes every day. No more than 25%. You know how to do that with having had discus. Then in 2 weeks do around 75% with slightly cooler water.

After the two weeks passes, you can take the divider out while you're watching them for an hour to see what they will do. If they go at it and lock up then you're all good, but if it is one-sided immediately put the divider back. Don't allow them to be undivided without supervision or you'll have to start over.

If you see any sign of either one of them cowering, put the divider back up. Lip locking is good as long as both hold their own and don't cower.

I had to leave for an Hr but I am back - they stayed locked while I was here earlier. Now they are separated but the male has all kinda skin hanging off his mouth! The female dosen't show too much damage but you can see some scraped. They are both kinda in different spots just chilling but It sorta looks like the male might be hiding???? If she bests him again I may pull her and try the smaller backup female. This original female may just be getting too big for him to stand up too?

I bin talking to a few other EBJD breeders and that can happen with these guys

We will see

PS- I saw them hanging out after I made this post. They were side by side and not fighting. Maybe that,s a good sign

Sounds like they've tested each other and are back to normal. Just keep an eye on them. If she had bested him, he wouldn't be anywhere near her. She'd keep beating on him or have him pinned in the corner. Add the recommended dose of aquarium salt to speed the lip healing along. It'll restore electrolytes as well.
